Facilities
Facilities include a dedicated outpatient clinic, Siemens
digital biplane catheterization laboratory (2003), exercise
and echo doppler/Transesophageal (GE and HP) laboratories,
a computerized data base facility and library. ECG facilities
include 24-hour ECGs, loop ECG recording and telephone
transmissions. Live video transmissions of echocardiograms
can be made from 7 regional hospitals. MRI and spiral
CT imaging facilities are in-house.
Approximately 23 outpatient clinics are held in seven
different centres throughout the Maritime Provinces each
year. Typically, a clinic will last from 2-3 days and
include 50-75 patients for screening and follow-up. A
minority of these patients return to Halifax for treatment
or evaluation. Echocardiography is performed at most
clinics with the help of a visiting IWK Echocardiography
Nurse.
