The Division of Medical Genetics provides clinical care,
including diagnosis, treatment and genetic counseling,
to patients and families throughout the Maritime Provinces
affected with, or at risk for, genetic disorders, inherited
metabolic diseases and congenital anomalies. Fundamental
to the academic mission of the division is its members’ active
involvement in research into these conditions and in
teaching at all levels.
A major activity of the division is the clinical patient
care provided through the activities of the Maritime
Medical Genetics Service, based at the IWK Health Center.
The Maritime Medical Genetics Service, including faculty
offices and clinical facilities, moved into expanded
new physical space in the new Dr. Richard B. Goldbloom
Research and Clinical Care Pavillion at the IWK Health
Centre in the fall of 2004.
