The Department of Pediatrics is actively involved in all
spheres of Continuing Medical Education and Professional
Development. Members of the Department participate in
organizing and presenting numerous CME activities at
local, national and international level.
Medical Grand Rounds are held every Wednesday 9:00
to 10:00 am from September to June at the IWK Health
Centre. These are presented by the members of the Department,
pediatric residents and by visiting speakers. Many
of these Rounds are teleconferenced to other centers
in the Atlantic region including Sydney, Kentville,
Antigonish, Truro, Moncton, Bathurst, Charlottetown,
and St. John’s.
Several divisions hold regularly scheduled rounds
and journal clubs. The members also present Grand Rounds
in other departments at Dalhousie University and at
various other health care institutions in the Maritimes.
The Department has also been actively involved in continuing
education of allied health professionals and families
(and support groups) of children with chronic diseases.
The Atlantic Provinces Pediatric Society (APPS) is
